Connecting New Housing to an Evolving Medford District
A vacant supermarket site. A recently repositioned retail center across the street. A major opportunity to bring new housing, infrastructure, and connectivity to Medford. RJ O’Connell supported the transformation of the former Shaw’s Supermarket parcel into Windsor Mystic River, a 350-unit multifamily residential community designed to strengthen the connection between Locust Street, Meadow Glen, and the surrounding neighborhood.
Following the renovation of Meadow Glen Shopping Center, the former Shaw’s Supermarket site presented a new opportunity for redevelopment. RJOC helped guide the conversion of the six-acre parcel into a residential community, preparing the permit applications and engineering design plans needed to move the project forward.
The project extended beyond the building itself. RJOC’s work supported improvements to Locust Street, enhancing vehicular traffic flow and pedestrian connectivity to Meadow Glen directly across the street. These upgrades helped create a more accessible, connected environment for residents, shoppers, and the surrounding community.
RJOC’s civil engineering work included improvements to the municipal sewer system and the design of a new stormwater management system. The stormwater system was designed and constructed to meet state and city regulations while supporting the long-term performance of the residential development.
As lead consultant, RJOC prepared the permitting and engineering documentation needed to secure approvals and support construction through completion. Completed in June 2021, Windsor Mystic River reflects the kind of coordinated site planning that turns a vacant parcel into a connected residential community.
